Getting Started

Hi, everyone.

I am starting a 70 day reading and journaling project of the Gospel of Mark along with other members for my church. (For more information on it, see the sidebar “About the 70 Days Project”.)  When our pastor explained the project I got very jazzed.   The reason for this is that last December I made a New Year’s resolution (which is odd because I never make New Year’s resolutions).  That resolution was to read through and thoroughly study a Gospel.  The one I picked was Mark.    I purchased a copy of The NIV Application Commentary on Mark by David Garland with the intention of using it as a guide to my reading and study.   I read the first chapter!  Really, I did.  And I even read the first chapter of the actual Gospel of Mark!

But after a few days, I fell back into my old habit of irregular bible reading.

I don’t believe that the Lord lowers the boom on us when we don’t keep our New Year’s Resolutions but I do think that the Holy  Spirit Who prompted me to select this gospel last December is now reminding me to get started on it again.

Cool, huh?

I don’t want to start before anyone else so I am going to wait until June 1 to do the first reading, but I am going to keep my enthusiasm and motivation by reviewing the background of Mark and posting some of my notes here.
